About Sandra Brewster’s Print Subscription: Sandra Brewster’s large 3-panel work, Feeding Trafalgar, 2022, is a photo-based gel transfer depicting an image of her mother feeding pigeons in Trafalgar Square in London, England in the early 80’s. As the excitable birds surround her, she is enjoying their presence. For Brewster, the photograph it references continues to resonate in terms of flight, movement, and freedom.
This subscription print, A Detail of Feeding Trafalgar, depicts a portion of the 10 ft work and focuses on her mother’s torso. It is taken from a transfer made by Brewster to further examine and enjoy the textures of the surface that change every time an edition is created.
Artist Bio: Sandra Brewster is a Canadian artist based in Toronto. Her work is grounded in people of the Caribbean diaspora, who maintain a relationship with back home. Born to Guyanese parents, she is interested in a sense of being that is multilayered, made up of a collision between geographies and temporalities. She expresses these complexities via the unfixed nature of her work’s materiality and presentation.
