Collection: Jaehyang Lee

Jaehyang Lee is a lithographer based in Toronto. She received BFA and MFA from the Hong Ik University in Seoul, South Korea, and another BFA from OCAD U, Toronto. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Seoul and Toronto. She also completed a residency program at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta. She has been a member of Open Studio since 2007.

Jaehyang's compositions are informed by her narrative of assimilating into Anglophone society after being uprooted from her own country. Mother nature and social connection provided her both consolation and encouragement. She felt connected to delicate dry plants and little things in life. This is represented by images that combine and juxtapose human body parts with fragile or neglected objects. Although Jae's work depicts difficult experience, she strives to convey an optimistic and reassuring message.
