Collection: Ted (E.J.) Howorth

Ted (E.J.) Howorth was born in Regina and grew up in Winnipeg. He received his BFA from the University of Manitoba, apprenticed under Wilfredo Arcay of Atelier Arcay in Paris and received an MFA from the University of North Dakota. In 1995 he was appointed to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, R.C.A.

Howorth began printmaking at the GWC Screen Shop in Winnipeg. In 1981 he moved to Toronto and worked as Director of Screen Printing for Open Studio. In 1987 Howorth introduced water-based screen printing to the University of Manitoba School of Art and taught printmaking there until retiring in 2013. He and Michael Schonke introduced water-based screen printing to Druckwerkstatt/BBK in Berlin in 1991. Howorth remains an active member of Martha Street Studio.     

For over 45 years Howorth has exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally. He has received numerous commissions and is a part of many private and public collections.
