Collection: Doug Guildford

Doug Guildford is a largely self-taught Canadian visual artist, born in Nova Scotia in 1948 and based in Toronto since the 1980s. He continues to spend summers on Nova Scotia’s remote coast, sharing an old farmhouse with his partner, writer Don Hannah.

His multidisciplinary practice includes drawing, printmaking, object-making and large-scale crochet works. These labour-intensive creations explore personal and ecological themes while emphasising process and material engagement. Guildford is a long-time member of Open Studio in Toronto and has exhibited widely across Canada, including solo and group shows at major galleries and museums. His work reflects the rhythms of the sea, the tactile nature of craft, and a deep commitment to process over product.
