Delve into the fascinating world of copper plate etching with our four-week workshop series! This immersive experience will take participants on a journey through experimental etching techniques, offering hands-on exploration of methods such as soap ground, sugar lift, spit bite, water bite, and multi-plate printing. This workshop series is designed for artists of all levels eager to push traditional printmaking's boundaries and unlock their creativity. By the end of the workshop series, participants will have gained a deep understanding of experimental etching techniques and the confidence to incorporate them into their artistic practice.

Suitable for all levels, no prior experience is needed.

About the Instructor: Danny Cardoso (he/they) is an emerging printmaking artist based in Toronto who graduated in 2020 from OCAD University with a BFA. Their art practice focuses on constructing large-scale, print-based installations with visual narratives hidden in patterns. The use of patterning comes from a strong connection to Portuguese tile work (“Azulejos”), and how their history fits into his life. Through intensive research of historical archives in the Iberian Peninsula and family history, Danny combines the visual patterns of “Azulejos” with contemporary themes of Queerness, mental health, and identity, while simultaneously pushing the limits on what contemporary print work can be.
