$300, includes materials
Mondays, 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
May 9 - June 6, 2022 [no class May 23]
Instructor: Daniel Cardoso  (he/they)

Humanity has been creating patterns across the world for millennia. Now it is your turn! Learn to design, carve, print, and assemble your own patterns while learning relief printmaking simultaneously. This class is perfect for any artist or designer!

Using lino blocks as the matrix, participants will design patterns from their own source material, transfer and carve their design, print, and assemble them into bigger works.

Participants will come away with a set of tessellating prints that can be assembled into unique 2D or 3D work(s).

Suitable for all levels, no prior experience is needed.

About the Print Instructor: Danny Cardoso (he/they) is an emerging printmaking artist based in Toronto who graduated in 2020 from OCAD University with a BFA. Their art practice focuses on constructing large scale, print-based installations with visual narratives hidden in patterns. The use of patterning comes from a strong connection to Portuguese tile work (“Azulejos”), and how their history fits into his life. Through intensive research of historical archives in the Iberian Peninsula, as well as family history, Danny combine the visual patterns of “Azulejos” with contemporary themes of Queerness, mental health, and identity, while simultaneously pushing the limits on what contemporary print work can be.
